Lasers and flight paths: Saltire Scholar Success for UoE physicists

The Saltire Foundation Scholar programme has celebrated another record-breaking year: sending 144 student interns across 5 continents to work with 59 host companies. The programme is open to penultimate year students.

It’s a real achievement getting a place so I am delighted to say that Edinburgh students Zoe Karamanide (Physics) and Mike Walmsley (Theoretical Physics) have just started their work placements as Saltire Scholars.

Zoe is in sunny California working for Coherent Inc as a Laser Performance Characterisation Intern and she will be keeping you up-to-date via her blog. Mike will be analysing and planning new aviation routes for Edinburgh Airport and reporting back to you via his blog soon.

You can also follow all the Scholars’ experiences by reading their blogs over the summer.

To find out more about Saltire and to apply next year, or in the future,  start here.
